The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry uses the American Association of Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS). To apply, submit the AADSAS application. There is an application fee of $264 (in 2022) for the first dental school you choose. Each additional school you apply to is $115 (in 2022).
In addition to the materials listed below, the committee considers college or university attendance, undergraduate academic record and course load, and previous work experience. Students who have completed a baccalaureate degree are given preference in the admissions process. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English on the DAT as well as during the interview process.
Annually, 140 first-year students are admitted to the DMD program at the Kornberg School of Dentistry. These students are selected from a large number of applicants—more than 2,500—who apply each year. All applicants are evaluated and scored using qualitative and quantitative criteria. The combined score and holistic review approach ranks the applicants and determines the tier for interview and admission.
The supplementary application will be emailed directly to the student once the preliminary AADSAS application is verified. The application includes the opportunity to share information about life experiences, such as civil or military service, post-baccalaureate or master’s experiences, and previous clinical and humanistic experiences.
Students will be required to submit official transcripts from all undergraduate coursework to AADSAS during the application process.
Candidates must have completed a minimum of 90 semester hours from an accredited college or university. A bachelor’s degree in the sciences is preferred. A minimum of eight semester hours, with lab experience, in each of the following subjects is required.
Six credit hours in English are also required, and it is highly recommended that applicants have exposure to advanced science courses, particularly anatomy, biochemistry, histology and physiology.
Every applicant must take the DAT. Kornberg recommends that you take your test no later than Aug. 31 of the application year or when applicants are ready. DAT scores are an important component considered in the admissions process. Applications will not be reviewed without reported DAT scores. Scores more than two years old at the time of application will not be accepted. A Canadian DAT score report is required for those applicants who take the Canadian DAT.
Students are required to submit two letters of recommendation from science professors or pre-health committee members.
Highly qualified candidates are invited for a formal interview. Chosen applicants will meet with current students, tour the facility and review financial aid and housing procedures. Interviews give potential students the opportunity to learn more about Temple and they allow the Admissions Committee to learn more about applicants, and gauge their motivation, approach to problems and communication skills.
Admission decisions are made Dec. 15 (or the following business day). Upon acceptance, a nonrefundable deposit is required to hold a seat in the class. Please note that there is no option to defer admission.
Dental school applications must be completed and verified by Jan. 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST of the year for which the application is made. We must receive your supplemental application fee by Jan. 20 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
